Summary
Visual effects and animation for the Wish You Were Here 50th Anniversary film, translating themes of absence, memory, and connection into a restrained cinematic language.

Role
EFFIXX created visual effects and animation sequences for the Pink Floyd: Wish You Were Here – 50th Anniversary Film, a cinematic celebration of one of the most influential albums in modern music. Working alongside director Justin Hopkins and creative producer / industry legend Dilly Gent, the project sought to honor the emotional legacy of Wish You Were Here while introducing a contemporary visual language that feels timeless. The work spans abstract animation, visual effects, and textural treatments designed to live seamlessly alongside archival material, live-action footage, and album-era iconography.

Together with director Justin Hopkins, we worked on VFX treatments and a series of animated vignettes that picked up where the original Gerald Scarfe animated films left off, including song-length visuals for Welcome to the Machine and an extended passage for Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Pt. 1-5.

The full scope of our work on the the film has yet to be publicly released, but we're excited to share excerpts, below.
'Shine On You Crazy Diamond Pt. 1-5': Design Stills
Still frames from the content design process. The full excerpt explores an interstellar implosion of symbolic ephemera based on the song themes, artist lore, and artifacts from the records' original release campaign

'Welcome to the Machine': Design Stills
A thematic continuation of visual motifs established by the song's original music video animator, Gerald Scarfe, within an an environmental setting inspired by the famous black plastic cellophane used to shroud the album on record store shelves; a statement about the opaque, transactional nature of the music industry.

Additional VFX Shots
We provided support on a handful of shots throughout the film using real-time VFX tools, generating digital prismatic filters used on archival film montage sequences
